JulieAlthough Netflix is available in many countries, there are only a handful of TV shows and movies that you can see globally. In each country Netflix has to negotiate unique deals with film and TV companies, and it’s not always good to know what you can see where.
Now Netflix is going to end the tortuous region rafters and they want to create “Netflix Global” – a service that can mean the end of regional borders online.
Will stop VPN usage
With a global array, Netflix wants to be redundant to VPN services. These services allow Netflix users pretend they are in another country, to get access to content they really should not have. This implies that you can get access to the US Netflix content using a few clicks.
VPN thing is just a small clause in relation to piracy. Piracy is the real problem around the world, says Netflix chief Reed Hastings.
Piracy is said to be a far harder nut to crack:
– The most obvious solution for Netflix is to be global and make the same content available worldwide.
– One of the problems with piracy is that a small proportion of users do not have access to content. The part we can fix. However, it is also part of the pirates who simply will not pay for it. It is a difficult problem to solve. As an industry, we need to fix global content.
Not yet launched
Although Netflix wants region free content and open across all borders, they have a long way to go. To get it, they need to persuade the film and television industry that there is a model they can earn money, which can take a while.
