The carrier unlocked Moto X 1st Gen or Moto X 2013 smartphones has started receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update in the US, Canada and Brazil. The news has been confirmed by Motorola’s David Schuster. The release notes for this update are available on Motorola website here.
David Schuster posted on his Google+ profile about this update and said that this update will be rolled out in United States, Brazil and Motorola devices by Rogers in Canada. David wrote,”I am pleased to announce that we have started full deployment of the 5.1 Android Lollipop upgrade for Moto X (1st Gen) for US Retail, Brazil Retail and Rogers in Canada.”
The soak tests for the Moto X 2013 was already running and David confirmed previously that if these soak tests went off smoothly then Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be rolled out in the U.S. and Brazil soon.
On june 10 David wrote,” We have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week. If all goes well with the soak testing this week we expect to start deployment for 2013 Moto X (1st gen) in India next week.” Which means this update will be available soon in India also.
David also said that Lollipop 5.1 upgrades for Moto X 1st and 2nd Gen will also follow as soak tests are started for Moto X (2nd Gen) for the retail channels including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Singapore and Sweden and soak tests for Moto X (1st Gen) for the retail channels including Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates.
This update will bring new features, bug fixes and enhancements. This update includes new material design, Smart Lock, multi-tasking, app pinning, Battery enhancements etc features.
