No Lollipop update for DROID Ultra, DROID Mini and DROID Maxx: Schuster

Motorola won’t be upgrading the DROID Ultra, DROID Mini and DROID Maxx smartphones to Android Lollipop OS update. Motorola’s senior director of software product management David Schuster informed the users via his Google plus post. In October last year, Motorola posted a list of devices that will get the Lollipop update and that list also includes DROID Ultra, Mini and Maxx smartphones. This will be a bad news for all the users using the three Droid devices stated above and hoping for a Lollipop update for their devices.

We are talking about the Verizon DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini devices here. He posted,” we apologize that we will not be upgrading DROID Ultra/Mini/Maxx to Android Lollipop, as we had hoped. We know how important software upgrades are to our customers, and we’re very sorry that we are unable to provide the upgrade. We would like to offer something to people who purchased this device. We know that some of our DROID Ultra/Mini/Maxx users will still be disappointed, but we hope that this helps to make amends.”

In Addition, he posted a link to the Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 with discounted prices that will now cost $524 ($100 off) and $334 ($50 off), respectively. So, the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx or DROID Mini owners can upgrade to the Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 with these discounted prices. The interested users can purchase the Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 before Thursday, May 19 as the offer expires on May 19. The Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini phones are currently running the outdated Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS and this cancellation of Lollipop update may hurt many in the US.

As Motorola have confirmed that they are not updating the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and DROID Mini to Lollipop OS, we can assume that there will be no OS update in future for these three devices.
