 1.    Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi

IIT New Delhi is a group of autonomous engineering institutes in India. It was initially set up in New Delhi as College of Engineering and Technology on 21^st August, 1961. In 1963, the institute was modified into the public engineering institution Indian Institute of Technology.

2.    Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

IIT Kanpur is another institute under the umbrella of IITs which are considered as institutes of national importance in India. This institute is located in Kanpur and was established in 1959. It was one of the first IITs to be set up. It was founded by a consortium of 9 prominent research universities from USA as part of KIAP (Kanpur Indo-American Program).

5. Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

IIT Roorkee is one of the oldest technical institutes of Asia. Founded in 1847, it was given the status of a University in the year 1949 and then upgraded into an IIT in 2001. The institution consists of 18 academic departments that cover the streams of Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, Applied Sciences and Management.

6. Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani  

BITS Pilani is a private university consisting of 15 academic departments that specifically concentrate on engineering education and related fields. The varsity was set up in 1964 and is categorized a deemed university under the UGC Act.

7. Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi  

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) or IIT (BHU) is a Varanasi-based public engineering institution. Located in Uttar Pradesh, the varsity was recently given the stature of Indian Institute of Technology. Those students who have been seeking admission to the institution after the batch of 2007 are now being awarded IIT degrees. The college was converted into an IIT with effect from 29^th June, 2012.

8. Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore

Delhi Technological University, also commonly called DelTech now and previously called Delhi College of Engineering, is a public university based in New Delhi. The institute has been providing education in engineering for more than 65 years. It has been offering technical teaching through learned faculty in a contemporary environment. It is strongly associated with engineering education in the country.

10. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati  

IIT Guwahati was funded in 1994 in Assam. The varsity provides engineering education at the post-graduate, undergraduate and doctoral level. It is the 6^th IIT to be set up but the first to launch design as a discipline.
