Samsung has halted the shipping of the Galaxy Note 7 flagship in many countries because of the explosions occurred in the Note 7 battery in different regions. Samsung has now briefly described the reasons behind the Galaxy Note 7 explosions in an official post on their official UK website. The reason behind the explosions is the faulty batteries from the Samsung’s own subsidiary SDI but Samsung has said that its exploding because of the overheating of the battery cell.
Samsung UK also confirmed that the explosions happened in Korea, United States and in Taiwan with no reported injuries globally. “Globally, as of September 1, there have been 35 cases that have been reported through Samsung’s customer service centers. Korea reported 17 cases, U.S. reported 17 cases, and 1 from Taiwan with none reported in the UK.”
Explaining on the issue Samsung added, “Based on our investigation, we learned that there was an issue with the battery cell. An overheating of the battery cell occurred when the anode-to-cathode came into contact which is a very rare manufacturing process error.”
The Korean giant also declined to accept that the Samsung SDI are faulty and are the reasons for the Galaxy Note 7 explosions. They added, “In order to meet market demands, we are working with multiple suppliers. Unfortunately we will not be able to confirm this as we work with several suppliers. We are currently working with all of them to protect our customer’s safety first and foremost.” This issue will also delay the shipments of the device in the UK and in other countries as well.
Samsung has also issued another statement where they are offering replacement of the Galaxy Note 7 units with a completely new unit having the battery from a different supplier for all the UK and Ireland Galaxy Note 7 users. Conor Pierce, Vice President of IT & Mobile of Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said “The safety and satisfaction of customers is our top priority and by working closely with our partners and operators, we are taking a proactive approach to address the needs of Galaxy Note7 customers in the UK. We are encouraging customers to exchange their Galaxy Note7 by taking advantage of the Product Exchange Programme.”
