In an official event today, HTC announced its new HTC U series and introduced two new smartphones in this new series called HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play. Let’s first checkout the specifications and pricing details for the HTC U Play smartphone. The HTC U Play comes with Sapphire Blue, Comestic Pink, Brilliant Black and Ice White color options and is priced at NT $13,900 (around $438) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage option and will be available in Taiwan with shipping starts from March 2017. It comes with a glass design with a metal frame and also comes with HTC Sense Companion for AI-based suggestions.
The HTC U Play comes with a 5.2-inch Full-HD Super LCD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with up to Mali T860 GPU. It comes with two variants with one having 3GB RAM + 32GB inbuilt storage and the second one having 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage capacity with expandable storage up to 2TB with microSD card. It runs on the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) OS out of the box and we can expect the rollout of the Android Nougat soon.
It supports hybrid dual SIM and features a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, OIS and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera as well with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens and UltraPixel mode. It comes with a fingerprint sensor on the physical home button on front. A 2500mAh battery powers the device with fast charging and connectivity options includes 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 and 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS with GLONASS, NFC and USB 2.0 Type-C. other features available are HTC USonic and dual microphones with noise cancellation. It measures 145.99 x 72.9 x 3.5-7.99mm and weights 145 grams.
No details available when it will be available globally, however, the company lists the device on the HTC UK website which hints towards the early launch of the device in the UK. Pricing details are currently unknown for UK.
