In an official press conference today at Seoul, Korea, Samsung revealed the reasons behind the Galaxy Note 7 explosions. In an official statement, Samsung confirms that the Galaxy Note 7 exploded because of the faulty battery inside the phone. The Galaxy Note 7 explosions cost the company billions and the brand reputation loss. The president of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, DJ Koh declares the results of the investigation and expressed his apology to the Galaxy Note7 customers, distributors and carriers around the world.

Around 700 researchers and engineers participated in the investigation and testing more than 200,000 fully-assembled devices and more than 30,000 batteries the company confirmed the battery issues as the cause of the explosions. The company haven’t blamed the battery manufacturers and also dismissed the possibility of suing the manufacturers. “Whatever parts we use, the overall responsibility falls to us for failing to verify its safety and quality, at this point, I don’t think it’s right to seek legal action.” said Mr. Koh at the press conference.

“For the last several months, together with independent industry expert organizations, we conducted thorough investigation to find cause to the Galaxy Note7 incidents, today, more than ever, we are committed to earning the trust of our customers through innovation that redefines what is possible in safety, and as a gateway to unlimited possibilities and incredible new experiences.” said Mr. Koh.

In September 2016, Samsung announced the recall of around 2.5 million units because of the increasing explosion incidents. Samsung blamed the battery of the device to be the cause of the explosion but haven’t blamed the sister company Samsung SDI for the same. Samsung also started replacing the affected units with the new batteries from the Chinese battery maker ATL, but increasing incidents of explosion with the replaced battery units forced the company to permanently halt the production of the Galaxy Note 7 to avoid any further damages.

As Galaxy Note 7 was dead, Samsung started sending safety notices to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge units owners to let them know that their units are safe and they can use it without any worries. Samsung is now rumored to launch its new flagship device Galaxy S8 along with Galaxy S8 Edge at MWC 2017 event next month, but the company’s president of Mobile Communications Business, Mr. Koh said that the launch of the flagships might be delayed to ensure that it won’t have any safety issues.
